Daily Discussions on Mixed Media Contemporary Art| Are you a mixed media artist? | | I'm constantly on the look out for Mixed Media artists that are "new" to me. I love viewing other's work to get inspiration, and motivation. My Mixed Media art includes:Mixed Media art paintings
altered book work
ATCs or ACEOs
art journal work
greeting cards
handmade books
assemblage artI love reading and writing about this topic. Is this what you do you for art? Some call it "outsider" art, too. Does your work fall into this category? | |

| | Do you collect ephemera and other things? | | I've been collecting ephemera, found objects, mixed paper, scraps and other things people would typically throw away or ignore for my art projects since 2003. I've obtained these items from swap groups, my community and my household and this collection seems to grow weekly.Do you collect these things for your art projects? How do you keep them organized (if they are, in fact, organized)? Do you constantly seek out new things for your collection? What sort of projects do you use your collections for? | |
| | | Information for butterflies! | | The butterflies are very beautiful and tender,i like them.Artistic depictions of butterflies have been used in many cultures including as early as 3500 years ago, in Egyptian hieroglyphs.Today, butterflies are widely used in various objects in art and jewelry:mounted in frames, embedded in resin, displayed in bottles, laminated in paper, and in some mixed media artworks and furnishings.Butterflies have also inspired the "butterfly fairy" as an art and fictional character, including in the Barbie Mariposa film.In many cultures the soul of a dead person is associated with the butterfly. As in Ancient Greece, where the word for butterfly (psyche) also means soul and breathe. In Latin, as in Ancient Greece, the word for butterfly papillio was associated with the soul of the dead. The Death's-head Hawkmoth's skull pattern on its thorax has helped these moths, particularly A. atropos, earn a negative reputation, such as associations with the supernatural and evil. The moth has been prominently featured in art and movies such as Un Chien Andalou and The Silence of the Lambs, and in the artwork of the Japanese metal band Sigh's Hail Horror Hail album. | |
| | an English question | | In the two sentences "I think I've heard some references to Cybermodernism, if you want to investigate some of the work that's being created in mixed media literature." and "If you run into any problems, just stop by during my offce hours. Maybe I can give you some references or at least a sounding board.", do the two "references" in the sentences above have the same meaning? I think the latter means "advice", but ironically I can't find such an entry in dictionary. And I'd like to know what is a "sounding board" in the second sentence. Thank you! | |
| | Name something you can do tomorrow to make yourself happy. | | It seems pretty simple, right? It's more difficult that you think. Not only is coming up with something that you can do that will make you happy a challenge, but following through with it is another challenge. Are you up for this challenge?Name something you can do tomorrow to make yourself happy.Me? I'm going to work on a mixed media painting using some supplies I received for my birthday. I'm going to do this in the evening, when I know I won't be bothered, and then I'll work a little more on it Sunday if I don't finish. Yep, that'll make me happy.:-) | |
| | Do people believe you have a "real" job? | | I've been working from home as a freelance writer, author, and mixed media artist since 1999 and, during that decade, I've had more than my fair share of "you don't have a real job" type conversations. I feel I have to constantly define my work, and prove to my peers that is is a true profession . . . even if I am working from home.Do you face these issues with your peers? If so, how are you handling this? If this isn't an issue for you, how do you recommend others solve this problem? | |
