| | hudson river airplane crash as a result of birds | | You would never think a bird could disable a plan but when it gets into the engines it can destroy it. In yesterday's crash the flock of birds got into both engines and the plane had to come down. Apparently the plane can fly if it still has one engine, but not with two damaged.birds are responsible for over 200 known crashes so far,http://www.newsday.com/news/printedition/longisland/ny-libird166000581jan16,0,5080908.storythe survivors were rescued from the freezing waters of the Hudson river, some of them turned around and bored the next flight1- Would you take another airplane after a disaster like that?or what you take a train or bus to get to where you were going if you had the opportunity?2 - even not being on that plane and hearing about it in the news would you take a plane now?please give your reasons for or against taking planes, | |
| | Plane Landed On Hudson River In NYC | | I was eating dinner when my eyes caught the news on TV. A plane landed on Hudson River in NYC. I was horrified when I heard the news. But, God is Great! There was 150 passengers and no one got hurt and the newsmen and all the people in the airplane was praising the pilot and all the people who made their safety possible. I was thinking if I would ever ride a plane again. I remember before Dennis and I were leaving, from Manila to Chicago, we watched the movie of Anne Hatheway's "Passengers". The movie was horrifying. I could not stop thinking about the movie while I was in a plane. Now, I heard from the news and watched it on TV, a plane landed or should I say, crashed on the water? Woah![em]shocked[/em] I am glad that no one was hurt.[em]happy[/em]Have you ever thought of riding a plane then a wild imagination came out of your mind? What is the first thing you always do when boarding a plane?[em]thumbup[/em] | |

| | Major Kudos to the Pilot, Crew and Passengers of US Airways 1549! | | A US Airways Airbus 320 crashed into the icy water of the New Jersey side of the Hudson River today. All of the 150 passengers, the crew and pilots survived the accident. This is a testament to the skill and level headedness of the pilot and crew! To hit the water and bring everyone out alive is almost a miracle. It's not every day we get to hear of an airline accident where all the people involved lived to tell about it.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/plane_in_river | |
| | Breaking News | | A US Airways plane went down in the Hudson River minutes ago. the plane has sixty passengers on it. It was on it's way to North Carolina. The plane struck a bird. It is really cold here today, and for the people to be in the river is really terrible. They are in the process of rescuing passengers now.
Let's pray for these people. | |
| | | The dredging plan for the Hudson River in New York State | | I was so glad to support the Environmental Protection Agency's plan to dredge/clean out the Hudson River. After all the arguments and eventual examinations, the General Electric will plan to dredge the Hudson River. It will stretch from Albany to Fort Edward, NY. Right now they are building the transportation and processing facility along the wharf that is along the Champlain Canal. I expect the dredging to begin in early 2009. The facility is to include certain buildings that receive dredged sediments, filter out clean water to be dumped back into the canal, take out whatever clean sediments that are not PCB-affected, and finally transfer the PCB-borne sediment onto railcars; gondola cars. I know that the new rail yard has been established. The facility will stretch from the south of Rt 196 down to the last lock nearest to the East St bridge, leading to the Ft Edward village. The new rail yard will intersect the existing rail yard in Ft Edward. On the Hudson River there will be barges assisted by tug boats during the dredging work. The Champlain Canal was widened to build the wharf to dock three barges that ship the dredge sediment to the facility. That way the canal will still... | |
| | Why are women and children evacuated first? | | The custom or protocol of women and children being evacuated first began in 1852 when the British warship the HMS Birkenhead sank of the coast of South Africa. We also know that women and children were evacuated first on the Titanic. As recently as the crash landing of Flight 1549 onto the Hudson River that women and children were evacuated first. Now I have a question. Is this gender preference of women first with their children just a tradition, or is it protocol? I cannot really find an answer to this. I'm writing an article, so if you know which it is, I need a link to verify your statement. I appreciate all your help. Thanks in advance. I'm thinking that it is merely tradition, because women are seen as the weaker sex, and that children need their mothers. Most ship captains, and commercial pilots are former military, from what I have read. So maybe they have a protective nature of women and children? Or is there a mandate somewhere that gives protocol to women and children first? Links please with your answer... if you know the answer. | |
